As I’ve sought to know what the Lord would have me share with you this morning, I felt the need to talk about the metaphor of the dogs.
Two dogs
§ The story is told of the man who climbed the proverbial high mountain seeking guidance from the wise man who lived on top. And when the seeker of wisdom got to the top, the wise man told the seeker, that within him were two dogs who fought each other. A good dog, and a bad dog. The seeker asked the wise man, which dog would win the fight… and he replied, the one you feed the most.
Sundays are a wonderful time each week when we revitalize our spirits. We have time to focus on covenants, on family, on visiting others, and on serving in the church. It is such a blessing to have a sabbath day.
· But if Sunday is the only day in which we seek the spirit then we have a 1 in six chance of making it to heaven. We must work all week at nourishing our spirits, so that our spirit will be strong enough to beat the opposing dog who is fighting all week long.
I guess what I’m saying, is that in the world in which we live, where spiritual sewage is being spewed through the broadcast airwaves and every other media, we had better be feeding our spirits everyday and praying always, or our spirits will starve, just as our bodies would starve if we only fed them weekly.
There are two important principles which will feed our spirits and make our good dogs strong enough to defeat our bad dogs.
The First is -
The power of Remembering
The Second is - The power of Pure Religion
